Review:
Matt &
Brad's JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS TIME was a big 3 hour show at the Tsawwassen Arts
Centre with many wonderful performers: Matt, Brad, Andy, Ian, John, Devon,
Grant, Rose, David, and Leonora. Each artist did a three song set, Leonora
introduced each artist and hosted the show with some 'wordfire', and matt &
brad kicked off the set FEELIN' GOOD style as a duo. The crowd was great - enthusiastic
and attentive, and it was a really fun show for everyone!
Matt & Brad started the show with a rockin'
INSECURE/IMMATURE and some drunken banter to get the audience going. They
followed with A SORTA FAIRYTALE the gorgeous tori amos cover, and NEVER SAY
NEVER, although it was riddled with technical difficulties it was still
beautiful.
Grant McKenzie's set followed and it was very nice - he is
professional and precise when he performs, and his set was enjoyable -
especially when he was joined by Ian and Andy to sing DREAMS. Ian's set
followed, and he did a great job including a cover of SILENT NIGHT! How festive!
Devon was next, a kid who's new to performing, but he blew
everyone away with a cover of CATS IN THE CRADLE, and Matt joined him on piano
for one song. Brad Pedwell's set was good, filled with cover songs, yelling, and
drunken hooha'ing that makes brad so fun to watch! Leonora Record was the
hostess with the mostess reading some provocative poetry and just being cool and
funny in between each act!
After the intermission (where we were treated to yummy apple
cider) Andy Roy came on, and was described by blushing audience members as
"precious!". His set was fantastic, and when Matt joined him for
vocals on HOLD ON it was a moment to remember! John Henville performed a solo
piano set next - including GREENSLEEVES (a dark eerie version), and two of his
older 'hits' from his album I LOVE WOMEN IN FACT I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I AM ONE
NOW. One of these songs is the famed FOREST BOOGIE that really got the audience
going!
Finally the one and only Matt Presidente took the stage
(after an emotional performance of BLINK by him and Leonora) with Ian Malinski
and did an acoustic version of THE COUNTRY SONG. Next Matt did something rare -
debuted a new song called HALLOWEEN - in this song matt wailed like a banshee!
It was great. And for the last song he was joined on stage by brad for a sad,
pensive, and festive JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS TIME.
For the encore there was a mix&match of performers - Matt
& Brad did the risqué FEELIN' GOOD, WORLD IS WATCHING (with andy roy
singing!), AS I GO ALONG (with rose record!), RESTITUTION (acoustic duo
version), and finally a rousing number where all the performers were up on stage
leading the audience in a singalong to ROCKIN AROUND THE XMAS TREE.
