I am thrilled to be invited as a feature performer for the 30th anniversary of Calgary pride! This virtual event will be showcasing so much great Canadian talent from musicians to drag performers, comedians, burlesque and more. I put together a great 20min set with new songs, old songs and a special duet with Tara C Taylor all the way from Berlin. More information at the Calgary Pride website!
The Calgary Pride festival and parade takes place each Labour Day long weekend, with thousands gathering to celebrate gender and sexual diversity in our city. This year, due to physical distancing guidelines related to the spread of COVID-19, the 30th anniversary of Calgary Pride has been reimagined. Calgary Pride 2020 will take place virtually and through a series of community-hosted #OurPride events, bringing Calgary together in a whole new way.
Calgary Pride 2020 will feature almost 300 LGBTQ2S+ artists, a free Learning Series with over 100 workshops,#OurPride community partner events, daily DJ and Drag Hour entertainment leading up to Parade Day, and 11 hours of jam-packed entertainment on September 6. Community newscasts leading up to Pride Week (August 28 – September 6) highlight artists and events as well as what’s happening in the gender and sexually diverse community. You can catch the newscasts every Friday on social media and the Calgary Pride website.
As part of the 30th anniversary festival, Calgary Pride invites local businesses to join the #OurPride initiative and show their support of the LGBTQ2S+ community, which has been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. #OurPride events are Pride-inspired creative gatherings and fundraisers aligning with provincial physical distancing recommendations as they are defined during Pride Week. Calgary Pride will provide robust media kits to participating #OurPrideorganizations, shining a spotlight on these community partners during the Pride Festival. All #OurPridepartners will have access to diversity and inclusion training through the free Calgary Pride Learning Series, already underway and available online to everyone.
Events will be live on Calgary Pride’s website at https://calgarypride.ca/live and streamed on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Twitch.
